Ouya Support – APK Space

Ouya Review - title

I can’t install anymore APKs onto internal memory because I’m out of disk APK space. Yet, it says I have 500MB free space! What gives!?!

Android sets aside 500MB of APK space as almost like a ‘temp’ folder for any work it has to do with installing APKs. When it gets to 500MB it simply stops because the android installer takes that 500mb for initializing installation of your apps. You will have to buy a USB thumb drive or remove some programs off of your Ouya in order to install again.

Ouya Support – Stuck in Boot Loop

Ouya Review - title

My Ouya is stuck in a perpetual update loop or boot loop. It states that it is updating, reboots, and then starts the whole process all over again!

Ouya Update Boot Loop Screen - Ouya Support

The update boot loop is a fairly  common problem with Ouya’s when Ouya Inc used to push updates to these units and either the unit was rooted or the download from Ouya Inc got corrupted for whatever reasons.

Ouya Support – Blocky Low-Rez

Ouya Review - title

My Ouya looks very low-rez and blocky! It’s only displaying at 640×480! I can’t read the text in some of the video games because of how low of a resolution it is!

A low-rez issue is the fault of Android 4.1; The operating system that Ouya wrapped itself around during the time of launch. And unlike other systems such as embedded Linux boxes and even Android 4.4 it lacks adaptable resolutions for displays that do not conform to the proper HDMI standards. Thus, you are stuck with 1080p – 1920×1080 , 720p – 1280×720 and finally the fall-back mode which is 640×480.

Ouya Support – Loose USB

Ouya Review - title

The loose usb problem with Ouya:

Ouya Console Back. The loose usb issue happened on many kickstarter Ouya units where after just a few plugins of usb sticks, keyboards, mice, or joysticks these USB ports eventually fall right out. This was an annoying issue and sometimes even rendered the USB port useless.

Ouya Support – Power but no Screen

Ouya Review - title

My ouya was working, but after an update I get a power light and nothing on the screen. I think my Ouya is bricked!

Sometimes this happens if there is cache files that is preventing your Ouya to power up all the way with the newly updated OS. To resolve this you will need a USB keyboard plugged into the back of your Ouya.

Ouya Support – Artifacts on screen

Ouya Review - title

My Ouya displays garbage/artifacts on the screen the moment I power it up!

This is also another ugly worst-case Ouya Support issue. Where the Ouya will either completely lock up causing the HDMI signal artifacts since it just lost it’s clock timing even though power is still being supplied to the LCD or flat-panel TV.

Ouya Support – Flashing Power

Ouya Review - title

Flashing Power: If I press the power button on my Ouya. It only flashes for a moment. If I press and hold the button it will begin to power up until I remove my finger.

This problem I’ve been hearing it pop up from a handful of users but never really experienced it myself which is the flashing power issue. In this scenario, it is assumed that you get at least some form of video on your screen when you are holding down the power button such as the orange (U) logo upon power-up. Perhaps if you hold it down long enough it comes all the way up to the main menu. If you are not even getting video then it may be something more serious then a simple power switch issue.

Ouya Support – No Power

Ouya Review - title

No Power: My Ouya simply does not turn on. I press the button and no light, no anything!

Ouya Review - The PowerBrick. Before you panic and think of the worst-case scenario that your Ouya is totally gone it may not be receiving no power from your power supply. I had a friend which had a defective 12v power supply for their Ouya, I took a voltmeter to the barrel plug of his power adapter it was was only reading something like 0.6volts! Test out your Ouyas Power supply first with a multimeter if you have one. If it is defective you can pick up a universal PSU from radio shack or eBay so long as it delivers an output of 12 volts and 1.5 amps. If the amperage is less then 1.5 amps the Ouya may have issues crashing while playing games.

Ouya Support – Burning Ouya

Ouya Review - title

Burning Ouya: When I put my  Ouya to sleep but when I come back to it later it never wakes up. When I press the power button on my Ouya I touched the side and I notice my console is burning!!! OMG!!

The burning Ouya is a bizarre Ouya Support issue and it happened not on my developer Ouya, or my Kickstarter Ouya but an Ouya that I got from a retail outlet like Target. My router is loaded with DD-WRT and I was able to detect all of the Ouyas in my house are constantly sending data over the network (some more then others depending on how many background services you have going). Burning Ouya - Gets hot when asleep on Ouya Support
